Why This Film?

Borderland: The Line Within exposes the harsh realities of borders and immigration policies. In Pennsylvania, our communities are directly affected by these same systems. We are organizing for driver's licenses for all, universal legal representation, healthcare access, and pathways to citizenship. This toolkit connects the film to our ongoing struggles and provides ways to take action.

The movie highlights the challenges and resilience of immigrant communities, not only at the border but also in the heartland. In Pennsylvania, the ongoing fight for dignity, justice, and human rights continues.

Host a Screening

​

Hosting a screening is a powerful way to bring people together, whether they’ve already seen the film or are watching for the first time.

 

Follow these steps to organize a successful event:

1. Make a request for a screening here

   • ​​​Click the box to connect with MILPA.​

2. Designate Your Organizers

   • This person or team will be in charge of organizing the screening and following up with the MILPA coordinating team. 

3. Plan Your Screening

   • Pick a date, time, and location (home, community center, virtual).

   • Invite friends, family, and community members.

   • Reach out to MILPA to see if a leader can join your screening for Q&A.

   • Print out the toolkit or prepare to share it with audience members [link to the 1 pager/physical toolkit]

4. Prepare for the Discussion

   • Use the discussion guide to inspire conversation. 

   • Encourage participants to share their thoughts on the film and how it relates to our fights in Pennsylvania.

5. Take Action Together

   • Host a phone bank or text bank to contact elected leaders in your district about driver’s licenses for all, universal representation, healthcare, and immigration reform.

   • Ask attendees to sign up as monthly sustainers of MILPA. If 1,000 people donate $25 a month, we can fully fund our statewide organizing efforts!

   • Share information on how to stay involved with MILPA’s campaigns. You can sign up to get updates from MILPA.  

6. Spread the Word:

   • Take photos and post about your screening using #MILPA and #BorderlandTheLineWithin.

 

We are getting organized in Pennsylvania to unify, organize, and fight back. Hosting a screening is just the beginning—together, we are building power for real change!
